  1. It is one of the beautiful compensations of this life that no one can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.

  2. To love and win is the best thing, to love and lose, the next best.

  3. The best proof of love is trust.

  4. The greatest tragedy of life is not that men perish, but that they cease to love.

  5. Love is an active power in man, a power which breaks through the walls which separate man from his fellow men, which unites him with others; love makes him overcome the sense of isolation and separateness, yet it permits to be himself, to retain his integrity.

  6. The love that lasts longest is the love that is never returned.

  7. Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence.

  8. Our mightiest feelings are always those which remain most unspoken.

  9. Love does not just sit there, like a stone; it had to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new.

  10. One cannot be strong without love. For love is not an irrelevant emotion; it is the blood of life, the power of reunion of the separated.

  When Love Beckons You

beckons

  When loveto you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions mayyou.And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

caresses

  For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height andyour tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to our roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

  But if, in your fear, you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and passout of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your‘ tears. Love gives naught but it self and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.

  Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must have desires, let these be your desires:

  To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

  To know the pain of too much tenderness.

  To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

  And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

  To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

meditate

  To rest at the noon hour andlove’s ecstasy;

eventide

  To return home atwith;

  And then to sleep with a payer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

  被自己对爱的理解所伤害;

  在黎明带着轻快的心醒来并感谢又一个有家的日子;

  在黄昏怀着感恩之心回家;
